Resident Return Visa

This visa is for holders of permanent resident visas where the travel validity of the visa has expired or is about to expire.  It allows current or former Australian permanent residents, or former Australian citizens to re-enter Australia after travelling overseas. This visa will allow you to maintain your status as an Australian permanent resident on your return to Australia.

If you are not present in Australia when the travel validity of your permanent visa expires you must apply for a Resident Return Visa to return to Australia and maintain your permanent resident status.

Basic Requirements:

To qualify for this visa you must meet minimum requirements regarding your residency in Australia or demonstrate other strong ties to Australia.  A Resident Return Visa is usually valid for five years.

 Entitlements:

This visa allows you to leave and enter Australia as often as you want, within the validity period of the visa, while maintaining your status as a permanent resident.As a permanent resident, you have the right to live, work and study in Australia for as long as you wish. You will also have access to Medicare (government-subsidised health care) and ability to apply for citizenship once you satisfy the residency requirements.
